A $9,000 grant has been given to the Tioga County Historical Society, according to an announcement from Rep. Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford). The funding comes from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) as part of its Cultural and Historical Support Grant Program.
“Tioga County has a rich history, and we are blessed by the folks at the Tioga County Historical Society who work so hard to both preserve and share that history,” said Owlett. “I’m pleased to see them receive this grant so they can continue their mission in our county and communities.”
The Tioga County Historical Society runs several sites including the Robinson House Museum and the Ladd Genealogical and Historical Research Library located at 120 Main St. in Wellsboro. These facilities are open on weekdays except for federal holidays. The society also manages the Tioga County Farm, Mine and Lumber Museum at the fairgrounds in Whitneyville, along with the Osceola Blockhouse and an 1835 log house in Osceola Township.
The Cultural and Historical Support Grant Program is designed to offer operating support to museums and historical societies across Pennsylvania that do not receive direct funding from other state programs. Grants are distributed based on a percentage of each organization’s annual budget. In this round of funding, 177 organizations across 59 counties received grants.
