Rep. Tina Pickett and Sen. Lisa Baker have announced that the Pennsylvania State University’s Cloverbud and Junior Explorers Agriculture Safety and Community Discovery program in Wyoming County will receive a $6,850 grant. The funding is provided through the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Ag and Youth Grant Program.
In a joint statement, Pickett and Baker said, “Agriculture is such an important part of Pennsylvania’s past and present, and with initiatives like these, it will continue to be an important part of our future. It is always great seeing young people being engaged and excited about farming and other agriculture activities.”
The Ag and Youth Grant Program provides both direct and matching grants for youth-focused organizations to promote agricultural education, leadership development, vocational skills, peer relationships, safety training programs, seminars, field trips, capital projects or equipment purchases. The program was established as part of the 2019 PA Farm Bill to support projects related to education or workforce development in agriculture.
The awarded funds are intended to benefit local youth by supporting programs that engage them in agricultural activities while emphasizing safety and skill-building.
