State Rep. Tina Pickett is encouraging residents in the Bradford and Wyoming counties to attend an upcoming seminar focused on human trafficking awareness. The event, titled “How to Protect Your Children from Human Trafficking in a Digital World,” will take place on Thursday, October 16, from 6-8 p.m. at the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock.
The seminar will include discussions with Wyoming County District Attorney Joe Peters, Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday, and Korrin Moon, president and founder of Lantern Rescue.
“In today’s digital age, kids are being groomed and exploited online in their very own homes,” said Pickett. “I hope parents, grandparents, educators, law enforcement and all who are concerned about this very real threat to our youth take advantage of this opportunity to learn how to protect their children from the dangers of human trafficking.”
The session is intended for parents, caregivers, educators, law enforcement officers and others interested in learning more about internet safety for children. Organizers say that human trafficking remains one of the fastest-growing crimes nationally and that families need to be vigilant as traffickers continue to use new methods targeting children.
Those wishing to attend can RSVP by visiting www.reppickett.com/events or by calling the Tunkhannock office at 570-836-4777.
