Lisa Baker, a Senator from Pennsylvania, said that motorcyclists with a license or learner’s permit should take advantage of free safety courses offered by the state. This statement was made on X.
“May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month,” said Baker. “A great time to sign up for a motorcycle safety course whether you’re a novice or experienced rider. Classes are free for Pennsylvanians who have a motorcycle learner’s permit or license.”
In May 2025, Pennsylvania marked Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month with initiatives aimed at improving rider safety and raising public awareness. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), the campaign emphasized wearing DOT-approved protective gear, rider visibility, and enrolling in the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program (PAMSP), which offers free training. These efforts are part of a broader statewide strategy to reduce motorcycle-related injuries and fatalities.
In 2024, Pennsylvania reported 3,292 motorcycle crashes resulting in 219 fatalities, marking a decrease from 2023, which saw 3,424 crashes and 238 deaths. According to PennDOT’s statewide safety data, this downward trend may reflect the growing impact of education and awareness campaigns, as well as increased training participation through the state’s motorcycle safety programs.
Pennsylvania’s Motorcycle Safety Program continues to grow, with 15,523 riders completing safety training courses in 2023—an increase from 13,434 in 2022. As reported by PennDOT, the free training is available to licensed and permitted motorcyclists, and successful completion can waive the skills test for licensure. The program is credited with improving rider competence and reducing crash risks.
Baker has served as the Pennsylvania State Senator for the 20th District since 2007 and is currently Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. According to her official Senate biography, she has prioritized public safety, transportation, and judicial reform throughout her legislative career. Baker is known for supporting infrastructure improvements and safety initiatives across the Commonwealth.
