Rep. Tina Pickett and Sen. Gene Yaw have announced the approval of $300,000 in state funding for housing projects in Bradford County. The funds, allocated through the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) program, are aimed at addressing the housing shortage faced by low- to middle-income residents in the area.
The grant will be directed to the Bradford County Homeownership Assistance Program. It is intended to provide down payment assistance, closing cost grants, or aid with necessary repairs to improve livability and safety standards.
“This grant program aids our community in providing funding for much-needed renovations and home purchasing opportunities,” said Rep. Pickett. “By investing in our neighborhoods to help low-income residents, we can create affordable housing opportunities for those struggling in our community.”
Senator Yaw emphasized the significance of PHARE as part of broader economic improvement efforts. “PHARE is a crucial part of our overall effort to improve our economy and provide affordable housing to our region’s residents,” he stated. “This funding is a substantial investment and will certainly provide help to those who need it most.”
The PHARE program is managed by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) and receives its funding from Marcellus Shale impact fees, realty transfer taxes, and the National Housing Trust Fund. It supports initiatives that enhance housing affordability, stability, and revitalization throughout Pennsylvania.
