State funding has been approved to support housing initiatives in Wyoming County, Pennsylvania. The announcement was made by Rep. Tina Pickett and Sen. Lisa Baker, who confirmed that $140,000 will be allocated through the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) program.
The funds are designated for the Wyoming County Transitional Housing for People in Recovery program. This initiative assists male offenders involved in the Wyoming Sullivan Treatment Court Program by providing necessary housing to aid their recovery process.
“This grant program aids our community in providing funding for renovations and new development,” said Pickett. “By investing in our neighborhoods to help low-income residents and those in recovery, we improve the area as a whole and create affordable housing opportunities.”
Senator Baker added, “This grant will provide a critical lifeline for those in the Wyoming/Sullivan Treatment Court Program, helping participants obtain transitional housing.” She emphasized that stable housing is crucial for rehabilitation success and contributes to reducing recidivism while enhancing community safety.
The PHARE program is managed by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA). It receives funding from Marcellus Shale impact fees, realty transfer taxes, and the National Housing Trust Fund. The aim of PHARE is to promote affordable housing, stability, and revitalization efforts across Pennsylvania.
