Mansfield University Athletics issued the following announcement on Aug. 23.

Head Coach John Shaffer announced that Ozzy Carapia has joined the Mansfield University women's soccer program as an assistant coach.

"The addition of Coach Carapia to the staff is already showing tremendous results," Shaffer said. "Ozzy brings with him experience working with one of the best Division 1 women's soccer programs at Texas A&M and most recently working with the organization that owns D.C. United, Loudon United and the Washington Spirit of the NWSL."

Carapia got his start in coaching as a student at NCAA DI Texas A&M University, where he served as the soccer operations manager from 2014-17. Carapia assisted with game day operations and event management, while maintaining all equipment and supplies for practices and games. He was the program's camp and equipment director in 2016-17, while also assisting the football, baseball and softball programs during their camps and clinics.

Carapia joins the Mountaineers from Loudoun Valley High School where he served as the Head Junior Varsity women's soccer coach.

"He possesses organizational knowledge from working as a director of operations and also tremendous coaching knowledge holding a US Soccer A license," Shaffer added. "Most importantly though, Ozzy aligns with the culture here at Mansfield built around the values of Love, Serve and Grow.  He has provided great perspective to the student athletes throughout pre-season week, and I cannot express how excited I am to work with Ozzy this year."

Carapia gained operational and team administration experience during his time spent with Loudoun United FC Soccer and as Washington Spirit's (National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)) equipment and operations manager.

Native of Donna, Texas, Carapia has a license with USSF National A-Youth. In 2020, Carapia served as the Reeves County Community Sports & Recreation Director where he oversaw and managed all sports, budget, equipment and staff members.

He earned his bachelor of science in sports management with a minor in business in 2017 from Texas A&M University after earning an associate of engineering from South Texas College in 2014.
