Mounties and red-hot offense set for three-game series at #12 ESU; All three games to be played at ESU

Northeast Bradford Elementary School  issued the following announcement on Mar. 24.

Fresh off a three-game home stand where the offense scored 27 runs, the Mansfield University baseball team will look to ride that momentum into their series with No. 12 East Stroudsburg University, beginning on Friday, March 25 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.

The Mounties travel to the Warriors for a noon doubleheader on Friday, March 25 before returning to ESU on Saturday, March 26 for a single game at noon. Due to unplayable field conditions at Shaute Field and Corning Community Colleges' unavailability, all three games will be played in East Stroudsburg.

LAST TIME OUT

The Mountaineers won two of their last three games, scoring a total of 27 runs against West Chester and Shepherd University at Corning Community College. The Mounties took down WCU, 8-5 before defeating Shepherd, 11-5 during the third game of the home stand.

The Mounties most complete game came in an 11-5 victory over Shepherd on Monday afternoon. Sophomore Bobby Curry was dominate in middle relief after entering the game for sophomore Luke Payne (4.2 IP), retiring the final two hitters in the fifth before tossing three scoreless to earn his first victory.

Senior Brady Mengel was lights out at the hot corner, recording eight put outs without an error, while also reaching base four times on offense, finishing 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI.

Senior Samuel Freedman and sophomore Marcus Nales each drove in a pair of runs and finished with two hits, while Nales added a two-bagger and Freedman stole three bases. Sophomore Shay Gustafson continues his hot start to the season, notching two hits, two stolen bases, an RBI and run scored. Senior Ben Osborne was also 2-for-3 with two walks, a run and RBI, while sophomore Dylan Mercedes drove in a run, scored and hit a double.

3/25/2016: Pepper Fires Four-Hitter in Win Over Bloom

MANSFIELD – Chase Pepper threw a complete-game four-hitter to lead Mansfield to an 8-2 win over Bloomsburg in the nightcap of a PSAC East doubleheader at Shaute Field Friday afternoon.

Klein went 2-2 with a double and two RBI's to lead the offense. Hillson was 2-4 with a double and run batted in while Rockwell had two hits in three at-bats with an RBI.
