Mansfield University Athletics issued the following announcement on May 26.
Mansfield University seniors Brianna Roys and Claire Ames have been named the 2020-21 recipients of the Steve McCloskey Service Award, the athletic office announced on Wednesday, May 26.
Named in honor of longtime Mansfield Sports Information Director Steve McCloskey who retired during the spring of 2017, the award is presented annually to a student who embodies the Mansfield University spirit and provides exemplary service to the athletic department.
Roys and Ames were student interns/workers in the sports information office throughout the 2021-22 year. The seniors were directly involved in gameday setup, live stating games, producing the Mountie All-Access live feed, producing and hosting Mounties Midweek shows, running camera, writing press releases, creating graphics, graphics, working directly with coaches and more.
"BK and Claire were both rock stars for Drew and I throughout the year," Sports Information Director Owen Lukens '18 said. "During our first year back to a full slate of competition, Claire and BK became an extension of Drew and I, taking on extremely important roles in our operation and executing every single challenge we gave them. Between missing time for my wedding and traveling with Team USA, I will forever be grateful to Claire, BK and our entire crew of students for their work this year."
Roys, who worked for the sports information office throughout her career, provided play-by-play and color commentary during the men's and women's basketball season, while assisting in other areas as needed. Roys also was the main football and field hockey stat caller during the fall, excelling in the fast-pace environment.
Roys graduated this May with a bachelor of science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in management with a 3.5 cumulative GPA and Cum Laude Honors. The Port Alleghany, Pa. native and will be studying to earn her Doctorate/MBA in Chiropractic Therapy at D'Youville this fall.
Ames, who began working with the sports information office for the first time as an intern during the fall, excelled from the jump as the team's main statistician for women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, softball and baseball.
Ames graduated this May with a bachelor of science degree in Communications with a concentration in sports information finishing with an overall GPA of 3.99. Native of Addison, N.Y., Ames has accepted a communications internship with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) office, located in Lock Haven, Pa., where she will provide multi-media assistance starting this fall.
