Mansfield University Athletics issued the following announcement on May 25.
Former Mansfield University baseball infielder Ben Osborne '22 has signed a professional contract to play for the Wasco Reserve of the PECOS Professional Baseball League.
Osborne is the 56th player in Mountaineer baseball history to play the game professionally.
Osborne, a three-year starter at first base and designated hitter, finished his career with the Mounties batting an impressive .313, with 97 hits, 13 doubles, 54 RBI and 41 walks. Osborne reached base safely nearly 40 percent of his 311 at-bats, while starting all 91 of his games played.
As a senior, Osborne remained one the of the Mountaineers most consistent hitters, once again surpassing the .300 batting average threshold (.336) with 49 hits, five doubles, 31 RBI and 20 runs scored. His average and on-base-percentage was third on the team, while his hits and RBI finished second.
Osborne's biggest moment of his final season came in a 6-5 13-inning thriller against Bloomsburg, where he ripped a single up the middle to plate the game-winning run.
The Wasco Reserve are an independent professional baseball team based in Wasco, California. The PECOS operates in cities in desert mountain regions throughout California, New Mexico, Southern Arizona, Kansas, West Texas and Southern Colorado.
