Mansfield University Alumni-Athletic Hall of Famer Ronald Collier '69 was inducted into the Capital Area Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame during a celebration in Harrisburg, Pa. in June.
The Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame was chartered in 1962. It is the only community-based Hall of Fame in the Country and its present thirty-one (31) Chartered Chapters serve more than 300 communities throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Each year the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame inducts area greats of yesteryear and endeavors to include athletes, administrators, coaches, officials, sports medicine and the sports media. The Chapters of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame also honors the scholastic, collegiate, community service and courageous athlete awards within those communities.
Inducted into the Mansfield University Alumni-Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986, Collier lettered in football, basketball, and baseball during his time at MU. He was named to the Mansfield University All Era (1940-1970) football team. In basketball, Collier was a 2nd-Team All-PSAC guard and still holds the program record for assists in a single game (19).
However, baseball led Collier to the professional ranks, where he was drafted in the Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies (1968) and Washington Senators (1969) before being selected in the second round of June Secondary draft, where he ultimately signed with the New York Yankees in 1969.
Collier has coached baseball at Lower Dauphin High School in Hummelstown, Pa. for 47 years, leading the club to over 700 wins, 24 league or division championships, 32 District III playoff appearances, two District III Championships, one Eastern State Championship, and one Western State Championship.
