We are so excited to welcome our student-athletes back to campus and a special welcome to our 90 first-year student-athletes to the Mountie Family. We begin this fall with new coaches in Women's Basketball (John Davis '96), Football (Chandler Czarnota and Joey Delgardo '22), and Men's Basketball (Mike Rell '20) and want to extend a special welcome to each of them as well. We are also finalizing the hiring of a new Strength & Conditioning coach – stay tuned – I'll have more to report on that in my winter update.
Before we get underway this fall, I want to provide a recap of some of our recent activities and successes.
70 Mountaineer student-athletes were selected to the PSAC All-Academic team, which is slightly more than a third of the student-athletes. Field Hockey led the way with 13, while Baseball and Women's Soccer each had 11. 68 student-athletes were recognized on the Dean's and/or President's Lists. The cross country team's GPA was the department leader at 3.396.
- Sophomore Abigail Taylor was named as a USTFCCCA All-Region honoree in her first year. She is the first triple jumper in program history to earn such a distinction.
- The Steve Zegalia Memorial Golf Tournament netted over $13,500 in support of the Sprint Football program. It was the largest tournament in history with 43 foursomes.
- The Women's Track & Field Team earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors by achieving a combined GPA of over 3.0 – theirs was 3.34. J
- The following student-athletes were awarded the department's Creed Awards during the latest installment of the Mountie Awards:
- Character – Jasmine Hilton (Jr.) – W. Basketball
- Scholarship – Hannah Meyer (So.) – Field Hockey
- Culture – Assaf Lowengart (Sr.) – Baseball
