Women’s soccer drops PSAC East road match at Shippensburg

The Mansfield University women's soccer team (2-7-1 overall, 0-7-1 PSAC East) fell to Shippensburg University (3-4-2 overall, 3-3-2 PSAC East) on the road, 3-1, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at David See Field.

 

Junior Emily Smith (Lehman, Pa. / Lake-Lehman) erased an early 1-0 Raiders' lead in the opening minutes of the second half with her second goal of the season.

 

However, the Raiders answered with the go-ahead goal in the 56th minute before putting the game away with an insurance goal in the 73rd minute.

 

Neither team recorded a corner in the first half, but the Raiders doubled the Mounties, 4-2 in the second half, while outshooting MU 8-4 on goal.

 

Freshman Samantha Merklin (Effort, Pa. / Pleasant Valley) landed the loss in goal for MU, finishing with five saves. Smith finished with a team-high two shots on goal to lead the offense.

 

For Ship, Anna Stoner, Makayla Agosto, Jenna Folmer scored the goals, while Kendra Barlow earned the save in net, finishing with three saves.

 

The Mounties remain on the road and will travel to East Stroudsburg University on Sunday, Oct. 2 for a 1 p.m. PSAC East match.
