Freshman Lotte Dams (Bilthoven, Netherlands / Het Nieuwe Lyceum) scored twice and dished out an assist to lead the Mansfield University field hockey (7-6 overall) team to a 4-2 victory over Frostburg State University (7-7 overall) on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 19 in non-conference action at Karl van Norman Field.
Dams, who led the Mounties with five points, has three goals in her last two outings. Junior Saramae Radel (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove) finished with a pair of assists, while juniors Alex Esterling (Wilmington, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) and Hannah Meyer (Kitchener, Ontario / Forest Heights) also scored goals.
After a scoreless first period, Dams put the Mounties on the board in the 24th minute with her first goal, unassisted.
The Mounties limited the Bobcats to just one corner in the first half, however FSU took advantage of the opportunity, converting for their first goal in the 27th minute to knot the game at one.
However, Esterling regained the Mountaineer advantage just two minutes later when she found the back of the cage off the sticks of Dams and Radel.
The Bobcats tied the game again six minutes into the second half, but the Mounties answered just two minutes later when Meyer fired a heat seeker by the keeper off an assist by Radel to put MU back on top, 3-2.
Dams scored an insurance goal for the Mounties in the 44th minute off a helper by senior Olivia Wagner (New Cumberland, Pa. / Cedar Cliff) to round out the scoring and secure the victory.
Esterling finished with a game-high 10 shots, with six coming on goal. Dams and Meyer each added two shots on goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper August Lewis (Felton, Del. / Lake Forest) had a strong game in net, collecting a game-high nine saves, earning her seventh victory.
Madison Manalansan finished with six saves for the Bobcats. Olivia Wenzel and Femke Hofkamp scored the goals.
The Mounties travel to East Stroudsburg University on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest.
