The Mansfield University sprint football team (4-1, 3-1 CSFL North) racked up 510 yards on offense and recorded their first shutout of the season en route to a 35-0 Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Northern Division victory over Alderson Broaddus on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 15 at Karl Van Norman Field.
The Mounties, who totaled 337 yards on the ground, had two players go over the century mark in rushing for the first time in program history.
Junior Terrance Quaker (New Bloomfield, Pa. / West Perry) had a career day on the ground, racking up 136 yards and scoring a touchdown on 13 attempts. The all-time MU career rushing leader, sophomore Cahsid Raymond (Philadelphia, Pa. / Benjamin Franklin), added to his total with 102 yards on 10 attempts while also scoring a touchdown. Both runners averaged over 10 yards a carry, while Raymond added 132 yards through the air (11-of-23) and a touchdown. Freshman Audie McAree (Emory, Texas / Rains) also found the endzone on the ground, adding 65 yards, while fellow freshman Jed Reese (Batavia, N.Y. / Batavia Notre Dame) notched 51 yards on nine attempts. Senior Eugene Haynes (Washington, D.C. / Richard Wright Public Charter) was the leading receiver with three receptions for 50 yards.
The Mountaineer defense was dominate, limiting the Battlers to 127 total yards (2.0 yards per play) and just 11 first down, while forcing one turnover.
Senior Matt Robert (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads) the Mounties in tackles, finishing with a total of seven, including 0.5 for loss. Fellow senior Chase Moser (Wellsboro, Pa. / Wellsboro) finished behind Robert with six, including a career-high 4.5 for a loss of 23 yards. Freshman linebacker Ian Mapp (Burlington Township, N.J. / Burlington) notched a career and team-high two sacks. Sophomore Eli Swan (Mount Pleasant Mills, Pa. / Mid-West) recovered a fumble.
The Mountaineer defense has not allowed double-digit points in over two games.
The Mounties scored in every quarter after jumping out to an early 14-0 advantage through the first. The Mounties jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after McAree capped off a six-play 69-yard opening drive with a six-yard touchdown run.
Mansfield punted on their next possession, before embarking on a long 10-play drive, marching the full length of the field before Raymond punched into the endzone with a three-yard rush to make it 14-0.
Quaker extended the Mountaineers' lead to 21-0 off his longest rush of the year, a 60-yard scamper to paydirt.
The Mountaineer defense continued to stall the Battlers' drives, allowing the offense to find the endzone for the fourth time when Raymond took his second touchdown 45 yards to the house.
The final MU score came 13 seconds into the fourth when Raymond connected with freshman Beau Schellinger (Emory Texas, Rains) for a six-yard touchdown pass, making it 35-0.
Tim Tillman (9-for-24) finished with 71 yards passing and Willie Hopper added 35 yards on the ground to lead the offense. Dylan Knight recorded nine tackles and forced a fumble to lead the offense.
The Mounties travel to Army West Point on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. for a CSFL North contest.
