HARRISBURG - Rep. Tina Picket (R-Bradford/Wyoming) and Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) have announced that over $525,000 in state funding has been awarded to two projects in Bradford County. The funding was approved through the Commonwealth Financing Authority's Small Water and Sewer Program (SWS) and the PA Culture Recovery Program (PACR).
The first project receiving funding is the Towanda Municipal Authority (TMA), which has been awarded $495,142 for North Main Street Sewer improvements. This project will involve replacing approximately 1,100 linear feet of existing sanitary sewer mains along State Route 1039. The improvements will benefit approximately 60 residents by providing them with new service connections and improved accessibility for maintenance.
Lauren Hotaling, Towanda Borough and municipal authority manager, expressed her gratitude for the support received from Sen. Yaw and Rep. Pickett, saying, "As always, the support for upgrades to our infrastructure from Sen. Yaw and Rep. Pickett is greatly appreciated."
The second project to receive funding is the Bradford County Regional Arts Council, which has been awarded $30,651 for Performing Arts Organization programs and marketing. This funding will support the council's efforts in presenting a wide range of artistic offerings that enhance the quality of life in the community and contribute to economic activity for surrounding businesses.
Rep. Pickett highlighted the importance of state grants for water and sewer projects, stating, "The funding often makes it possible for our local municipalities to do critical upgrades that are difficult for ratepayers on smaller systems to afford." She also expressed her support for the grant applications and her satisfaction in seeing them approved.
Sen. Yaw emphasized that the approved funds are valuable investments that benefit both the citizens and the environment. He added, "I was pleased to work with Rep. Pickett and our local officials to help make these projects a reality."
The funding for these projects comes from multiple sources, with the largest contribution being federal American Rescue Plan Act money appropriated for recreation and conservation as part of previous Pennsylvania state budgets.
This state funding will play a crucial role in improving the water and sewer infrastructure in Bradford County, benefiting both residents and the local arts community. The support from Rep. Pickett, Sen. Yaw, and local officials has been instrumental in securing these grants and making these projects possible.
