HARRISBURG – Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter) and Sen. Cris Dush (R-25) have announced the allocation of nearly $475,000 in state grants for projects in Eldred, McKean County, and Galeton, Potter County. The grants, awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, will contribute to the improvement of public safety and the enhancement of outdoor recreational opportunities in the respective areas.

“These grants are important investments in the safety and quality of life for our residents,” emphasized Rep. Causer. “I was pleased to advocate for these projects and bring this money back to our district.”

Sen. Dush echoed his sentiments, stating, “Improving public safety by way of flood mitigation and upgrading outdoor recreational opportunities for our children are proven pathways for the continued advancement of economic growth and job creation all throughout our region. With so many hard-working families struggling with ever-rising costs and inflation, I am pleased to have played a role in securing this highly competitive funding for the citizens I serve in McKean and Potter counties.”

The grant of $250,000 has been awarded to Galeton Borough for the addition of a splash pad at John J. Collins Memorial Park. This outdoor play area will feature sprinklers, fountains, nozzles, and other water features, encouraging outdoor recreation for local children and visitors. Notably, the facility will have a closed-loop design to conserve water usage. Further improvements to the park are planned for the future.

Eldred Borough has been granted $224,400 towards its flood levee recertification project. The recertification of the levee by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is crucial for the safety and well-being of community members, the local school, and business district.

The funds for Galeton were awarded through the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program, while the funds for Eldred were provided by the Flood Mitigation Program. It is important to note that both programs are funded by natural gas impact fees authorized under Act 13 of 2012.

These grants mark significant progress in ensuring the safety and enhancing the recreational opportunities for the residents of Eldred, McKean County, and Galeton, Potter County. With the continued efforts of Rep. Causer and Sen. Dush, the advancement of economic growth and job creation in the region remains a top priority.
