Rep. Martin Causer and Sen. Cris Dush have announced funding for the ongoing wastewater treatment plant improvements in Shinglehouse Borough. The funding, totaling nearly $15.5 million, was awarded by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) and includes a $5.99 million low-interest loan and a $9.5 million grant.

Speaking about the importance of the funding, Rep. Causer emphasized the need to invest in public health and infrastructure systems. He stated, "It is so important to ensure our communities can properly treat their wastewater to protect our clean water supply. I was pleased to support this funding."

Sen. Dush highlighted the significance of funding water and sewer infrastructure in rural communities. He said, "Meaningful and sustained economic recovery begins with adequately funding and maintaining a safe, reliable, and clean water and sewer infrastructure." He expressed confidence that the funding would contribute towards responsible environmental stewardship and safeguard the well-being of aquatic life in Shinglehouse Borough.

The funding will be used for the second phase of the wastewater treatment facility upgrades, which include the installation of essential treatment equipment. The upgrades will involve the construction of a new grit removal system, clarifiers, effluent pumps and controls, and a new pre-anaerobic reactor tank. The existing chlorine contact tank will also be structurally rehabilitated, and a new headworks building will be constructed as part of the project.

The wastewater treatment system in Shinglehouse Borough currently serves 531 households in the borough and three in Sharon Township. With the PENNVEST funding, the community will be able to significantly upgrade their sewer wastewater treatment plant and meet the water quality needs of their residents for years to come.

PENNVEST has been instrumental in funding sewer, storm water, and drinking water projects across Pennsylvania since its inception in 1988. The funding for these projects does not come from the state's General Fund budget but is sourced from federal funding, prior bond issues by the state, and the proceeds from the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee.

The funding announcement by Rep. Causer and Sen. Dush demonstrates their commitment to improving public health and infrastructure in Shinglehouse Borough. The investments made will not only benefit the community but also contribute to responsible environmental stewardship and ensure the well-being of aquatic life in the area.
