The Wyoming Healthcare Center (WCHC) has received a $1 million state grant for further development of its facility near Tunkhannock. This announcement was made by Representative Tina Pickett, who played a role in securing the funding.

"WCHC is critical to Wyoming County and the health and welfare of all its citizens. The building has been non-operational for several years and cannot properly function without this upgrade," said Pickett. "In order to provide quality, up-to-date medical services and invest in the required equipment to do so, a broadband buildout is essential. I was pleased to be able to advocate for the state grant to ensure the work gets done."

The project aims to address healthcare needs in Wyoming County by establishing a centralized healthcare hub, providing broadband access to underserved populations, and collaborating with local businesses and organizations for outreach programs. WCHC is located at the former Tyler Memorial Hospital and recently opened its doors to the public with 13 tenants offering various healthcare services.

The funding comes from the Multi-Purpose Community Facilities Program managed by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority. This program provides competitive grants for projects that construct, acquire or improve public facilities, enabling work, education, and health monitoring.
