State Sen. Gene Yaw and State Rep. Clint Owlett have announced the allocation of $1.4 million in state funding for infrastructure improvements at two schools in Bradford and Tioga Counties. The funds, approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) through its Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program (PSFIG), aim to address aging infrastructure issues.

Senator Yaw emphasized the importance of upgrading local school facilities, stating, "It is critical that we support efforts to improve aging infrastructure in many of our local schools, some of which haven’t seen significant upgrades in decades." He expressed gratitude to Representative Owlett for his collaboration in securing the funding.

Representative Owlett highlighted the necessity of a conducive learning environment: "Ensuring a quality education for our students includes providing a safe and comfortable environment for learning." He noted that these grants would assist Northern Tioga and Canton districts in enhancing their facilities, thereby benefiting students, teachers, and staff.

The Northern Tioga School District will receive $900,000 for an emergency roof replacement at Westfield Area Elementary School due to severe structural damage. Meanwhile, Canton Area School District has been awarded $500,000 to replace chillers and install new compressors and controls within its HVAC system.

The PSFIG program offers grants to public school districts as well as area career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects. It is administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development under CFA's guidance.
