A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the McKean County Election Department in Pennsylvania on February 5, 2025. The request was made by Northern Tier News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the interest of transparency and public accountability, we at Northern Tier News have requested a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq. We have asked for this information preferably in an electronic format.
The details we have requested include each candidate's first, middle, and last names, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office, and their party affiliation. Furthermore, we have also asked for all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We believe that as media professionals disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver. We eagerly await a response from the McKean County Election Department as we continue our mission of delivering comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs.
