State Senator Gene Yaw and State Representative Clint Owlett have announced that $1.4 million in state funding has been allocated to two schools in Bradford and Tioga Counties for infrastructure improvements. The funds were approved during the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) Board meeting as part of the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program.
Senator Yaw emphasized the importance of updating school infrastructure, stating, "It is critical that we support efforts to improve aging infrastructure in many of our local schools, some of which haven’t seen significant upgrades in decades." He expressed gratitude towards Representative Owlett for collaborating to secure the funding.
Representative Owlett highlighted the impact on educational environments: "Ensuring a quality education for our students includes providing a safe and comfortable environment for learning." He acknowledged the grants' role in facilitating necessary facility upgrades, benefiting all members of the school community.
The Northern Tioga School District received $900,000 for an emergency roof replacement at Westfield Area Elementary School due to severe structural damage. Canton Area School District was awarded $500,000 to upgrade its HVAC system by replacing chillers and installing new compressors and controls.
The Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program aims to assist public school districts and area career and technical schools with facility improvement projects. It is managed by the Department of Community and Economic Development under CFA's guidance.
