Rep. Clint Owlett of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives has addressed concerns regarding the potential closure of the ASC-ES facility, formerly known as Ward Manufacturing, in Blossburg. The statement emphasizes the economic and personal impact on the community due to the possible loss of employment.
"Losing any type of employer has a negative impact on our region’s economy and, more importantly, on the lives of the folks who work there and their families," Owlett stated.
Owlett assured that efforts are underway to explore options that might prevent the closure. "Immediately upon learning of this proposed closing, we sprang into action trying to figure out next steps that could ultimately keep the plant open and operating here in Blossburg," he explained. He also acknowledged Ward's leadership for maintaining communication with local leaders since announcing the potential shutdown.
Highlighting regional strengths, Owlett noted, "Our region has a lot going for it, including a skilled workforce with a strong work ethic." He expressed confidence in the community's ability to rally together to retain jobs in Blossburg.
The situation remains dynamic as discussions continue between stakeholders to address these challenges.
