State Senator Gene Yaw and State Representative Clint Owlett have announced nearly $1 million in state funding for a sewer rehabilitation project in Westfield Borough, Tioga County. The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) approved the $981,470 award through its Local Share Account Statewide program during a recent meeting.
"The funding approved today is a valuable investment that is good for our citizens and good for our environment," said Yaw. He expressed satisfaction with collaborating with Rep. Owlett and local officials to realize this project.
Owlett highlighted the importance of reliable infrastructure, stating, "Reliable infrastructure – whether it’s sewer, water, or roads and bridges – is a public health and safety issue, as well as an economic issue." He acknowledged the grant as a worthy investment in improving Westfield's sewer system.
The funds will cover construction, engineering, and administrative costs associated with rehabilitating sanitary sewer lines on North Street, Lincoln Street, and Mill Street. The project also includes fixing or replacing all connecting manholes to enhance reliability and maintenance affordability.
The CFA was established under the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act to distribute gaming revenues supporting public interest projects across Pennsylvania. It operates as an independent agency within the Department of Community and Economic Development to manage economic stimulus programs by evaluating applications based on cost, strategic importance, and impact.
