The Bradford County Historical Society has received an $8,000 Cultural and Historical Support Grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC). This announcement was made by Representatives Tina Pickett and Clint Owlett.
"Preserving local history and culture is so important because it helps future generations better understand their past," said Pickett. "I am pleased the Bradford County Historical Society continues to receive this state support."
"Our historical society provides a valuable window into our past that also helps us learn and grow in the future," Owlett stated. "I am happy to see the Commonwealth supporting this important service to the community."
The society manages a genealogical and history research library, early record archives, and a museum located in Towanda's old county jail building.
The Cultural and Historical Support Grant program aims to strengthen Pennsylvania's museum community by funding general operations of eligible museums and official county historical societies not supported by other state agency programs.
This week, PHMC approved $1.9 million for 158 museums and historical societies across 58 counties. The grants were distributed based on a formula considering each organization's annual operating budget.
