The Wyoming County Historical Society has received a Cultural and Historical Support Grant of $8,000 from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC), as announced by Representative Tina Pickett. The grant is part of PHMC's initiative to support museums and historical societies across the state.
Rep. Pickett stated, "Preserving local history and culture is important because it helps future generations better understand their past." She expressed satisfaction that the Wyoming County Historical Society continues to benefit from state support for its preservation efforts.
The society, located in Tunkhannock at the historic Sand Hill School, offers resources such as eight display areas, a genealogical library, and research rooms for county residents.
The Cultural and Historical Support Grant program aims to bolster the museum community within the Commonwealth by aiding eligible museums and county historical societies that do not receive funding from other state agencies. This week, PHMC approved $1.9 million in grants for 158 museums and historical societies across 58 counties. The grants were distributed based on a formula considering each organization's annual operating budget.
