Rep. Tina Pickett has been reappointed as the Republican chair of the Insurance Committee for the 2025-26 Legislative Session in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Pickett, who represents Bradford and Wyoming counties, first took on this role in 2013.
The Insurance Committee is responsible for overseeing the Insurance Department and evaluating legislation related to insurance matters, with a focus on consumer impact. "Our committee acts as a watchdog for Pennsylvania consumers and strives to develop fair and honest insurance-related policies with them in mind," said Pickett. She emphasized her experience on the committee as an asset and expressed eagerness to collaborate with colleagues during the new term.
The committee's scope includes issues such as auto, health, homeowners, life insurance, insurance fraud prevention, mental health parity, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
Pickett was sworn into office for the new session on January 7. Alongside her role in the Insurance Committee, she will serve on several other standing committees: Committee on Committees (as Republican chair), Rules, and Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development.
Committees play a crucial role in legislative proceedings by reviewing all bills assigned to them. They may conduct hearings on proposed legislation, consider amendments to pending bills, and report them back to the full House for voting.
