Rep. Martin Causer has issued a reminder to older adults and Pennsylvanians with disabilities about the upcoming deadline for the state's 2023 Property Tax/Rent Rebate program. The application must be submitted by December 31.

"We significantly expanded eligibility for the program this year, and increased the maximum rebate," Causer stated. "I encourage anyone who qualifies or thinks they may qualify to contact our offices for free assistance with filing for the benefit."

The program is available to eligible residents aged 65 and older, widows and widowers aged 50 and above, as well as people with disabilities aged 18 and above. This year, income limits have been raised to $45,000 for both homeowners and renters, with the maximum rebate increasing to $1,000. Applicants should note that when determining income, 50% of Social Security benefits are excluded.

Applicants are reminded to provide necessary documentation:

- Renters need a completed 2023 PA Rent Certificate from their landlord or a HUD statement; proof of income such as Form 1099s; and identification like a driver's license or photo ID. Some might also need additional documents like a death certificate or deed.

- Homeowners must provide proof of paid property taxes for 2023, proof of income such as Form 1099s, and identification like a driver's license or photo ID. Additional documents may be required in some cases.

For those opting for direct deposit rebates, account information is needed; otherwise, paper checks will be mailed.

Assistance is available at Rep. Causer’s offices located in Bradford, Coudersport, and Kane. Contact details are provided for each location:

- Bradford: 78 Main St., first floor; phone: 814-362-4400.
