Applications for the 2024 Property Tax/Rent Rebate program are now open, according to Rep. Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford). Owlett reminds residents that free assistance with filing for rebates is available at his offices in Wellsboro and Troy.
The program supports eligible residents who are 65 years or older, widows and widowers aged 50 or above, and individuals with disabilities who are at least 18 years old. The income limit is set at $46,520 for both homeowners and renters, excluding 50% of Social Security or railroad retirement income. The maximum rebate amount is $1,000.
“This program has proven to be a significant help to area senior citizens who are on fixed incomes,” Owlett stated. “I encourage anyone who is eligible or thinks they may be eligible to reach out to our offices for more information and assistance.”
To avoid long wait times, appointments are recommended. Residents can schedule an appointment by calling the Wellsboro office at 570-724-1390 or the Troy office at 570-297-3045.
Applicants should bring necessary documentation to process claims:
Renters need a completed 2024 PA Rent Certificate from their landlord or a statement from HUD office; proof of income for 2024 such as Social Security/Disability Form 1099, employment W-2, Pension/Retirement Form 1099, Interest/Dividends Form 1099; and photo identification. Some may also require a death certificate.
Homeowners must provide proof of paid property taxes for 2024 to their county, municipality, and school district; proof of income for 2024 including Social Security/Disability Form 1099, employment W-2, Pension/Retirement Form 1099, Interest/Dividends Form 1099; along with photo identification. Additional documents like a death certificate, life lease or deed might be needed.
For direct deposit of rebates, applicants should bring a check with account details. Otherwise, paper checks will be mailed out starting after July 1.
