This year's final Property Tax/Rent Rebate Clinic organized by Representative Martin Causer is scheduled for Thursday, March 13, at the Emporium Senior Center located at 105 E. Fourth St., Emporium. The clinic will offer assistance from 10 a.m. to noon, and while appointments are preferred, they can be made by calling 814-486-3707. The service is provided free of charge.
The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program is designed to support eligible residents aged 65 and older, widows and widowers aged 50 and above, as well as individuals with disabilities aged 18 and over. For this year, the income limit for both homeowners and renters stands at $46,520, with the provision to exclude 50% of Social Security or railroad retirement income from this calculation. The maximum rebate available is $1,000.
To file for the rebate, renters must present a completed 2024 PA Rent Certificate by their landlord or a statement from a HUD office; proof of income for 2024 such as Social Security/Disability Form 1099, employment W-2s, Pension/Retirement Form 1099s and Interest/Dividends Form 1099s; along with a driver’s license or photo identification. In some cases, a death certificate may also be required.
Homeowners are required to provide proof of paid property taxes for the year 2024 to their county, municipality, and school district; proof of income similar to that required from renters; plus a driver’s license or photo ID. Additional documents like a death certificate, life lease or deed might also be necessary.
Applicants who prefer receiving their rebates via direct deposit should bring a check containing their account information. Otherwise, paper checks will be mailed out starting after July 1.
Additional assistance is available at Representative Causer's offices in Bradford (78 Main St.), Coudersport (279 Route 6 West), or Kane (54 Fraley St.). Residents can also apply online through the Pennsylvania House of Representatives website.
