HARRISBURG – Comcast Cable Communications LLC today was awarded nearly $2.9 million in federal funding for broadband expansion projects in Wyoming County, according to Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Wyoming).
"After years of waiting, broadband service will soon be a reality for customers in unserved and underserved areas of Wyoming County through this program," said Pickett. "We all know how critical the internet is in our daily lives, and I am so pleased to see that reliable, high-speed broadband service is finally coming to more communities in the Northern Tier."
The funding was made available through the state’s Broadband Infrastructure Program (BIP) and approved at a meeting of the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority in Harrisburg.
The authority awarded more than $204 million for 53 broadband expansion projects statewide. BIP targets locations that do not currently have access to 25/3 Mbps reliable service. The competitive grant program funds extensions of existing last-mile cable modem and fiber-to-the-premise broadband networks, and large-scale regional projects that can transform broadband availability by serving large numbers of eligible addresses.
Representative Tina Pickett from the 110th Legislative District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives expressed her enthusiasm for the expansion of broadband access in Wyoming County through this funding.
