In a bid to warn residents about emerging scams, Representative Tina Pickett and Wyoming County District Attorney Joe Peters are hosting a seminar in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities. Scheduled for May 9, the seminar will be held at the Triton Hose Company in Tunkhannock from 10 a.m. to noon. The event is free and aims to educate attendees, particularly seniors, on how to identify and protect themselves from scams.

“Scammers are becoming more aggressive and deceptive, putting our residents at serious risk, especially seniors,” Pickett and Peters stated. “This free event is an opportunity for folks to learn how to spot the warning signs and protect themselves before it’s too late.”

George Dillman, investor education coordinator with the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities, will lead the seminar. His presentation will cover common scams and methods to avoid them, featuring “Fraud Bingo.” This interactive game will educate participants about safeguarding against investment scams and other fraudulent activities. Coffee and donuts will be available, courtesy of the Luzerne/Wyoming County Area Agency on Aging.

Those interested in attending must reserve a spot, which can be done online at RepPickett.com/events or by contacting Pickett’s district office in Tunkhannock at 570-836-4777.
