Sophomore Katelyn Rueppel (Myerstown, Pa./ Eastern Lebanon County) netted a pair of goals for the Mansfield University women's soccer team, but it was not enough to overcome Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent Shippensburg, falling 3-2 in the final game of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at the MU Soccer Field.
Mansfield (2-14-2, 0-14-2 PSAC East) found themselves in a 3-0 hole early before the Mounties drew a Shippensburg (6-5-5, 5-5-5 PSAC East) foul in the box and in the 27th minute Rueppel cashed in on the penalty shot.
The Mounties continued the comeback attempt in the second half when freshman Lauren Straub (Walnutport, Pa./ Northampton) found Rueppel for her second goal of the game in the 53rd minute. The Mounties were held without a shot the rest of the way.
Freshman goalkeeper Samantha Merklin (Effort, Pa./ Pleasant Valley) collected a game-high 10 saves for the Mountaineers.
Shippensburg goals were scored by Imogen Longcake, Alyse Caffery, and Olivia Stephen.
This game concluded the 2022 Mansfield women's soccer season.
