Field hockey falls 2-1 to Huskies at home

Sophomore Kenedy Stroup (Millerstown, Pa. / Greenwood) netted her seventh goal of the season to even the score for the Mansfield University field hockey team in the first half, but Bloomsburg University scored the lone goal in the second half to steal a 2-1 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 26 at Karl Van Norman Field.

The Mounties (7-8, 1-5 PSAC) fall two games behind Bloomsburg (8-6, 3-3 PSAC) for seventh in the conference, one slot out of earning a postseason berth.

The Huskies scored the game's first goal just 43 seconds into the contest to take an early 1-0 lead.

However, Stroup found the back of the cage in the 21st minute to knot the game at one. Stroup has surpassed her goal total from her rookie season by three, with three games to go.

The Mounties controlled possession for much of the contest, while leading 17-6 in shots and 10-2 in corners, but the Huskies' defense never wavered.

BU scored the game-winner in the 11th minute of the third quarter and shut the Mounties out the rest of the way to secure the victory.

Abby Shaffer was electric in cage for the Huskies, earning the goalkeeper victory with a game-high nine saves. Carlee Williams and Sydney Derr scored the goals for the Huskies, both coming unassisted.

Sophomore August Lewis (Felton, Del. / Lake Forest) made one save in cage for MU, while Stroup and junior Saramae Radel (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove) led the offense with three shots on goal each.

The Mounties are back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. when they travel to Erie, Pa. to battle Mercyhurst University in PSAC action.
