The Wyoming County Historical Society has been awarded a Cultural and Historical Support Grant of $8,000 by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC), according to Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Wyoming).
“Preserving local history and culture is important because it helps future generations better understand their past,” said Pickett. “I am pleased the Wyoming County Historical Society continues to receive this state support to assist in that effort.”
Located in the historic Sand Hill School in Tunkhannock, the society’s museum serves county residents through eight display areas, a genealogical library, and research rooms.
The goal of the Cultural and Historical Support Grant program is to strengthen the Commonwealth’s museum community by supporting the general operations of eligible museums and official county historical societies that are not assisted by other state agency funding programs. PHMC approved $1.9 million in funding for 158 eligible museums and historical societies in 58 counties this week. Grants were awarded using a formula based on a percentage of each organization’s annual operating budget.
