Republican lawmakers convened at the state Capitol to discuss the impact of energy policies on Pennsylvania's economy. The hearing, titled "Stopping New Energy Taxes," was led by Martin Causer, Chairman of the House Energy Committee, and David H. Rowe, Policy Committee Chairman.
The session featured testimonies from David Taylor, president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association, and Kenny Stein, vice president of policy at the Institute for Energy Research. Both expressed concerns over Governor Josh Shapiro's energy policy proposals, such as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), suggesting they deter investment in Pennsylvania and increase utility costs.
Causer emphasized the significance of energy production in Pennsylvania, stating: “Energy and energy production is one of our biggest issues that we face here in the Commonwealth, but it’s also one of our biggest opportunities.” He advocated for minimal government interference to maximize the state's potential as an energy leader.
Rowe highlighted Pennsylvania's historical role in energy production: “Throughout American history, Pennsylvania has been a leader in energy production." He criticized Governor Shapiro's approach to new energy taxes, warning it could undermine Pennsylvania's economic position.
