A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Bradford County Election Department on February 5, 2025. The request was made by Northern Tier News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our quest for transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming election under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq. We specifically asked for this information in an electronic format.
The details we sought included the first, middle, and last names of each candidate. We also requested information about the office each candidate is running for and its jurisdiction. Additionally, we wanted to know each candidate's party affiliation.
Beyond these basic details about each candidate's campaign, we also asked for their contact information. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We look forward to receiving this information from the Bradford County Election Department as it will greatly aid our mission of providing accurate and comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs.
