Rep. Martin Causer is set to host the annual Property Tax/Rent Rebate Clinics this week in Kane and next week in Eldred. The clinics will take place at the Kane Senior Center on February 13 from 1-3 p.m., and at the Eldred Senior Center on February 19 from 9-11 a.m. No appointment is needed for these free services.
The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program assists eligible residents, including those aged 65 and older, widows and widowers aged 50 and above, and individuals with disabilities aged 18 and older. The income limit for eligibility this year is $46,520 for both homeowners and renters, with half of Social Security or railroad retirement income excluded from this calculation. The maximum rebate available is $1,000.
To file a claim, renters need to provide a completed PA Rent Certificate or HUD statement, proof of income such as Form 1099s for Social Security/Disability or pensions, employment W-2s, interest/dividends documentation, photo identification, and possibly a death certificate. Homeowners must present proof of paid property taxes for the year along with similar income documentation and identification.
Rebates can be received via direct deposit if applicants bring their bank account information; otherwise, paper checks will be issued starting after July 1. Assistance is also offered at Causer's offices located in Bradford, Coudersport, or Kane. Residents may apply online as well.
