Responding to concerns about illegible license plates, Representative Clint Owlett announced two upcoming events to assist vehicle owners in replacing these plates at no charge. The sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, April 15, and Wednesday, April 16. The first will be held at the Troy Sale Barn, and the second at the Wellsboro Fire Department Annex. Both events are from 4 to 7 p.m.

"PennDOT is required by law to replace license plates that are deemed illegible at no cost to vehicle owners," Owlett stated. "These events were very popular last year and will help make it more convenient for people who need their plates replaced to get the process started."

A license plate is considered illegible if its numbers or letters cannot be identified from a distance of 50 feet or it exhibits any signs of damage such as blistering or peeling. Officers from the Troy and Wellsboro police departments will inspect the plates at their respective event locations, and if the plates are deemed illegible, the necessary paperwork for replacement will be processed.

Individuals attending should have their vehicle, the affected license plate, a valid Pennsylvania driver's license, and the current vehicle registration card. Registration in advance is encouraged for faster processing and can be done through RepOwlett.com or by contacting the Wellsboro or Troy office. Callers will need to provide their driver's license and registration details.
